Giggle was lucky enough to come on our excursion last Friday! We went to the Immigration Museum and the special World War One exhibition at the Melbourne Museum. For our Inquiry learning last term we were looking at What it Means to Be Australian. We visited these museums so that we could learn more about where we came from. All of the museums were really good and we had a lot of fun visiting them. At the Immigration Museum there was a replica of the kind of ship that people would have travelled on to get to Australia. Giggle pretended that he was coming to Australia and had a little nap on the very hard beds. Then he went for a wander along the Sandridge Bridge which shows all of the different nationalities of people who came to Australia. We went to the Melbourne Museum after that.

We made some paper hot air balloons a couple of weeks ago. We have been learning how to write a procedural text. The students of 3/4C wrote up their own "How to" texts after making the hot air balloons. 3/4B used out procedural texts to make their own balloons. Well done 3/4C! Today we were all wearing our pjs to school. It was very easy getting ready this morning, that's for sure! We all brought a gold coin donation, with the money going to the children's ward at Traralgon Hospital. As a school, we raised over $250! This is fantastic, and the money will be able to help make sick kids feel better. Well done everyone! A big thanks to the lovely librarian at Grey Street Primary School for this photo! Ms Webb was lucky enough to meet the wonderful author Glenda Millard last week. Glenda has written so many books for children including the new book Duck and the Darklings. Glenda asked lots of lovely questions about the students here at 3/4C, and said to say a big "Hello!". In class we read the book Once a Shepherd, which is a very sad but moving story about a soon to be Dad who goes off to war. Students were able to do lots of inferring with this book, Glenda is definitely going to be one of our favourite authors! Especially since she signed all of Ms Webb's books, including Once a Shepherd, which she signed specifically for 3/4C! Who are your favourite authors? What would you say if you got to meet them? We have been looking at recipes this week. On Monday we made mars bar slice with Ms Wolfenden. Recipes are a type of procedural text, which has been our focus for the last couple of weeks. We had to write down the ingredients and the steps so that we knew how to make it. We are going to share our recipe so that you can make it at home! How To Make Mars Bar Slice
By 3/4C Ingredients: 195g Mars Bar chocolate, 90g butter, 3 cups of rice bubbles, 200g milk chocolate. Equipment: tray, measuring cup, mixing spoon, pot, knife, chopping board. Method: 1. Chop the mars bar into little pieces. 2. Put the butter and the chopped mars bar into a microwavable pot. Put it into the microwave and cook for one minute at a time until the mixture is melted. 3. Line the tray with baking paper. 4. Pour the rice bubbles into a container. Pour the butter and mars bar mixture into the container as well. 5. Mix it well with the spoon and pour it all into the tray. 6. Spread the mixture so it fills the whole tray and is smooth. 7. Melt the milk chocolate in the microwaveable pot for thirty seconds at a time and stir it. Cook till it is melted. Pour it on top of the rice bubble mixture in the tray. Spread the chocolate till it is smooth. 8. Refridgerate till it is set. 9. ENJOY! |
